The Markelov-Baburova murders: First arrests are made

On Tuesday and Wednesday, 3 and 4 November, the first suspects in the Markelov-Baburova murder case were arrested. The operation was shrouded in secrecy. Investigators had been hard at work, both among nationalist groups and the public as a whole, before the arrests were made.

“The State is showing a complete lack of interest in solving the murder of our mother”, Vera and Ilya Politkovsky

The investigation has continued for three years. Now it has finally been transformed into a farce, in an attempt to distract public attention from the main question: “Who ordered this killing?” Such an approach demands that someone must be convicted (or acquitted?) at any cost. It shows one thing and one thing only: the State is demonstrating a complete lack of interest in solving the murder of our mother. The case has been put at the mercy of political and departmental intrigues and this means, in essence, that the true killers are being protected.

Second time round: The Politkovskaya murder case

On Friday the Court decided whether to return the case for further investigation or make the participants listen to the same evidence and arguments a second time On Wednesday, 5 August the Moscow District Military Court resumed examination of the case against those suspected of involvement in Anna Politkovskaya’s murder.
