Distribution of spheres of influence in the new Russian government, President’s Administration and military and policing branch indicates that no one has been placed out. Petroleum traders and people from Gazprom, allies of President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, and even members of the still influential Boris Yeltsin’s family have opportunities for lobbying their interests. It is likely that the key positions in the enforcement area will be taken by Medvedev’s people. However, the appearance of other two state structures is also possible as a counterbalance: the renewed Investigative Committee, uniting not only prosecutor’s investigation but also the police investigation, and the Counter-Corruption Committee controlled by the Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

Two things burst upon the eye when looking at the reshuffling in the government and President’s Administration. First, no one disappeared anywhere, and the outgoing people left for business at least. The new bureaucratic establishment has formed within the ruling class, as it was pointed neatly by Alexei Makarkin. Like it was in soviet times, when a person does not cope with his position, he gets another appointment. It’s no good firing such people as they know too much and can begin to talk. If they had appointed Kasyanov to be the mayor of Moscow or the head of the Federation Council (as he wished) instead of dismissing him, no mess would have been made up because of him.

At the beginning of this week the Investigative Committee at the Prosecutor General’s office confirmed officially that Rustam Makhmudov – the elder brother of the arrested last year three Makhmudov brothers – is believed to be the performer of Anna Politkovskaya’s murder. Prices Let Free
The experts believe that dealing with inflation is going to be one of the main tasks of the new cabinet. However, the members of the cabinet do not appear to think so. At least imitation of struggle being noticeable at the beginning of the year, now it seems to be forgotten. Freezing having been over since 1st of May, no new suggestions of dealing with price rise have been voiced.
