Personal interpreter of the first President of the USSR Pavel Palazhchenko has translated the Medvedev-Sarkozy Plan from diplomatic language into Russian We are used to see the actual head of the foreign relations department at the Gorbachev Fund acting as interpreter for the former country’s leader. The authority by Pavel Palazhchenko being absolute among the professionals, Novaya Gazeta decided to apply to him for comments on the topical issue.

Abnormal Flight
Surface, Air: chronicle of plane crash Boeing 737-500, the flight 821, making the route Moscow-Perm, left Sheremetevo at 1:12 a.m. Moscow time. There were 82 passengers and 6 crew members on board; captain, second pilot and four hostesses. At 3:10 a.m. of Moscow time the aircraft disappeared from radars screens being 12 km away from the Perm’s airport named Bolshoe Savino. The dwellers of the two Perm’s districts – Sverdlovsky and Industrialny – woke up at the explosion.

If I Was Stalin…
Last year there was a big scandal about the History Teacher’s Guide titled “History of Russia in 1945-2007” written by a certain Filippov who turned Stalin into an “effective manager” and explained necessity of the “sovereign democracy”. A year passed and a new scandal broke, when a memorandum titled “On conception of the course of history of Russia in 1900-1945” was published on the Internet on the site of “Prosveshenie” House. That concept suggests that teachers explain to the pupils “the motives and logic of the actions by authority” (including those done during repression times); the “vertical of power” is mentioned in relation of as far back as Nikolai II, and all the Russian problems are reduced to harmful influence of “western feeling and trends”. Alexander Danilov was mentioned as the head of the author’s collective that prepared the published scandalous conception. We decided to ask professor Danilov himself about what is happening to the history textbook this time.

Boris Afanasyev: Everyone met one’s engagements fully
Within this relatively short period the specialists from the first Russian specialized clinic have brought to life hundreds of patients with leukemia. That’s the achieved result, the yesterday that one can be proud of. However, there are thousands of seriously and sometimes hopelessly ill children in Russia. Their number is not decreasing, and this poses the tasks and plans for the institute’s employees. These are hard tasks, and yet children with hopeless perspectives got a chance for survival now. Shortly before the year’s anniversary, the director of the institute, Boris Afanasyev, answered the questions by Novaya Gazeta.
