Meeting In Memory Of Anna Politkovskaya
7 October 2006 our colleague and friend, special correspondent of Novaya Gazeta Anna Politkovskaya was slain. We invite everyone to take part in commemoration meeting that will be held on 7 October 2008 from 1:30 p.m. till 3:15 p.m. in Novopushkinsky Square. The meeting has been arranged with the city’s authorities.

Open face-off with the West, US and NATO after the August war with Georgia was not a surprise for the Russian military and political leadership, and their response was quite prompt. Since 1st September “the most large-scaled complex strategic exercises during last 20 years” (an expression by the commander of the land forces Vladimir Boldyrev) have been going on, being named “Stability 2008”, which will be held in 4 stages and will last 74 days. According to President Dmitry Medvedev, the military exercise will involve 47,000 people, 134 bodies of troop’s management, and over 7,300 units of heavy materiel. “Stability 2008” is direct preparation of special services, state apparatus and army for possible large-scale nuke war with the US and NATO.

Nikita Belykh To Leave SPS
It was announced that the Friday Presidium of the Federal Political Council (FPC) of SPS would be featured with sensational solution of the debt problem by the right who owe money to the Central Elective Commission for TV campaigning opportunities granted to all the parties. The event itself, however, was topped even with more sensational resignation of Nikita Belykh from the post of leader and with his leaving the party. In accordance with the charter, the “eternal deputy” Leonid Gozman became automatically the acting chair and in that capacity he said to a Novaya correspondent that he had fixed a FPC meeting for 2 October with only one clause on the agenda: “On destinies of SPS”.

Old age is curable. Moreover, this is just “vestige of the past”, inherited by humans from the animals. This is how it is considered by the Academician Vladimir Skulachev, the director of research institute of physics-chemical biology at Moscow State University. A few years ago an ambitious project, titled “Skulachev’s ions”, was started there. The goal of the project is struggle with aging, and attempt of extension the lifetime.
