An ecological camp of protest is arranged in the settlement of Vashutino, near the city of Khimky (near-Moscow district). The organizers of this action are city’s dwellers, Russian ecological party “Zelyonye” (Green) and employees of Zelyony Patrol Organization (Green Patrol). All of them are protesting against felling going on in the Khimky forest and are demanding that the rent of the forest lands be annulled and the damage compensated.  

The action participants put up the tents and spread out the banners. Police officers often visit the place, but they do not turn away those people.  

According to the protesters, permission is not issued yet for cutting down the forest. However, the builder, Unix firm, has fenced the plot of 2.6 hectares and has been felling since middle of April. The ecological police, called by local inhabitants, came to the site and stopped the works, and put sanctions on the builder. However, after the police went away the felling just went on. About 2 hectares of the wood has been cut down already. The locals affirm that the source of the river of Khimka has been buried by the builders being located on the fenced territory, which is a violation of the law on protection of small rivers.
