On Memory day commemorating Anna Politkovskaya, St Petersburg’s dwellers get together traditionally on Troizkaya Square, in the city’s heart, near the Solovetsky Stone, laid in commemoration of victims of political repressions. The candles, lit in memory of Anna Politkovskaya exactly at this place, look very symbolical as well as the fact that her name is considered to be in that number.

Last year the municipal authorities banned the action in memory of Anna Politkovskaya and this year they attempted doing the same, alleging that exactly at this time – from 7 p.m. to 9p.m. - the finish grade would be held on Troizkaya Square. The Committee for Legality and Order suggested to the organizers holding the meeting at a far city’s part, in the park after 50th anniversary of the October Revolution on the Metalists Avenue.   

Nonetheless, at least one and a half hundred people came to Solovetsky Stone. Of course, there was no finish grade. Instead, there were reinforced police patrols. Though, the police did not interfere and did not make any complaints to the organizers. It’s only that a few police officers have been shooting the happening with their video cams.
