On 2nd anniversary of Anna Politkovskaya’s murder a silent commemoration manifestation was held near the Russian Embassy on Tehtaankatu Street.
The organizers of the action were the Finnish Branch of Amnesty International, Finnish Pen Center, the group “Finnish defenders of peace” and the Finnish-Russian civil forum.
Those gathering held Anna’s portraits in their hands and the lit memorial candles. The activists of Amnesty International distributed the leaflets with Anna’s portrait and information about the investigation of the Novaya Gazeta’s journalist’s murder that shocked the Finnish public. Over 350 people came to commemorate Anna.
Part of the lit candles were brought across the tram rails to the fence of the Russian Embassy, despite the polite requests by the police guards to restrain from such a demarche.
