On 5 October, on his own birthday, the Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov signed the decree about re-naming the Victory Avenue after V.V.Putin.  

“The role by Vladimir Putin cannot be overestimated within the story of relations of Chechen and Russian peoples… As a Chechen and as a Muslim I vow that I am ready to die for Vladimir Putin, if necessary” such was the comment by Ramzan Kadyrov about his decision.  

Though, the Kremlin’s attitude is rather reserved towards this initiative by Kadyrov. The Putin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said in particular that it is not accustomed in Russia to name places after the standing politicians. In Moscow, for example, till recently it was possible to give a name of a historical person to a street no less than 10 years after the person’s death.   

However, one of the Moscow streets was named after the killed father of the standing Chechen President, that’s Akhmat-Khadji Kadyrov. So it seems that the Chechen President just made a reciprocal initiative. And he did it on his birthday and shortly before the Putin’s birthday. Well, life is always developing… Before, it was common in Chechnya to gift Mercedeses for birthdays, even earlier before it was common to kill enemies as a present. When on 8 March 2005 killed was Aslan Maskhadov, Ramzan Kadyrov dedicated that event to the Chechen women.       

As for Putin Avenue, before it was called Victory Avenue. And that was about victory in the Great Patriotic War. A bit earlier a monument to the victims of the Stalin’s repressions was removed from the center of Grozny. So every generation has its own heroes and victories?
