The gathering was appointed to take place at the bus stop near the “Lydia” shop. The agenda was renaming of Tvorogovo to Putingrad.

Tvorogovo is a village in the Emelyanovsky district in Krasnoyarsk region. There used to be a kolkhoz “Put Ilyicha” (fittingly, Lenin’s Way) there. The village’s history dates back to 300 years. It consists of 4 lanes and 100 households. It was suggested renaming it after Putin after his campaigning visit to the location in November 2007, when he had some tea with the local road workers and explained to them what the “Putin’s plan” is.  

Of course, it’s not the politically unconscious peasants to have an idea of renaming come to their heads. The initiative was proposed by some city dwellers, well grounded in politics. Anyway, the idea proved to be a failure.     

The people from initiative group appeared suddenly in the village. They spoke little but promised much, saying that the location would get a great life after being renamed. They explained it with the fact that Putin’s name is a real brand now, capable of giving great advantage. Having pasted up notices of the coming-up meeting, the strangers disappeared.  

All that looked like a bad joke. However, at the appointed hour two men with enlightened faces came from the initiative group for toponymic changes. They did not give any details about themselves; they only reported to be Putin’s followers and admirers. All the village of Tvorogovo had gathered to talk to them. The agitators were not allowed talking too much and were said by the villagers that “We lived, we live and we shall die in the village of Tvorogovo”. Some orthodox believers crossed themselves as if seeing evil spirits and some people swore dirtily aloud. The agitators were nearly beaten and had to apologize to the locals repeatedly. Finally, they were told never to come again.   

The local and district authorities do not have any information about a mysterious initiative group and have no comprehension where the renaming idea might have come from.
